Strategy and Internal Communication Management

Internal communication can be defined as a set of strategically planned communication activities that flow within an organisation. These activities are oriented at maintaining the organizational members well-informed, connected, integrated and motivated. This would turn its contribute to the joint attainment of organisational goals. Internal communication is an academic and research field as well as a function with a certain level of development. There are several ongoing projects and initiatives led by renown scholars and communication professionals at international level. Thus, it can be claimed that internal communication has gained its identity and scope as a stand-alone field of study and professional practice.

The aim of this Internal Communication (IC) network is to generate synergies and promote collaborative actions among international researchers interested in delving into core topics and issues related to internal communication, such as:

  • the evolution of IC
  • ethics and essence of IC
  • functional responsibility of IC
  • status and hierarchy of the function
  • formative profile: required competencies, abilities and skills across different countries
  • conceptual questions of IC
  • strategic planning in IC
  • challenges and opportunities
  • levels of professional maturity of this function across the world: organisations, institutions, agencies, associations, consulting firms, global business environment

The abovementioned list can be further completed with other emerging trends. At this initial stage, this network has two key objectives: mapping the current studies in the field of IC in Europe as well as the researchers working on it. And, on the other hand, it aims at exploring possibilities and designing the first IC collaborative initiatives among different European countries.

How can EUPRERA members join the network?

Anyone willing to become a member of this network may do so by simply contacting any of the two coordinating members, Dr. Joan Cuenca or Dr. Susana Miquel and explaining their motivation and interest in joining this project (our proposed methodology and objectives).

Candidates can also share their own current projects to explore possible cooperation points. This collaborative network seeks to reinforce projects with a proven performance independently of their stage of progress, internationalization being a central focus, as well as the responsiveness and promptness in sharing knowledge and resources to enable the submission of the most robust proposals to institutions, indexed publications, observatories, etc. Of course, new scholar projects in IC are more than welcome as well.
